Make new feature "start from home" optional, not forced

Open to the community

I keep my tabs open for a reason! It's not nice to open FF after not that long to be forced to a new home page tab. Having to close a new tab that I didn't ask for just to go back to the one I DID want is asinine. I understand some people may have wanted it but I don't! Make it a slider in the settings at least, or just get rid of it!

I particually hate homepage, because when I open up Firefox I have a clear thing in mind to do, either I want to search for something new, or I want to check out something old. I don't need a menu full of items to distract me.
If you are really going to keep this feature, at least let us set the homepage to "about:blank" please.

The description of the “feature” as follows: Firefox will start on your Home page every time you reopen the browser after a couple of hours to avoid distracting you with the tabs of your last session. A) this is extremely judgmental about how people should use the product. I can decide for myself how I use my tools. B) it’s not just after a few hours it’s anytime you open it (at least in iOS).

I find this FAR more distracting than what it did before. 80%+ of the time on mobile, I am opening it *to go to one of my old tabs*, usually the last one I visited even if it was a few hours ago! Now I have to clear away the keyboard, then hit the tabs button, and by then half the time I’ve forgotten what I opened FF for in the first place. I almost never find the home page useful to begin with, why would I want to see it every time I open the browser?

I get that for some people the old tabs are a distraction, but that is something that VERY MUCH varies from person to person. It needs to be optional. This behavior is annoying and disruptive enough to my workflow that I’m considering looking at other browsers.

Thanks to the member who directed me to this page. The Homepage tab is more than annoying. It opened every time not after a couple of hours as Mozilla claim and leaves the last page open looking like a homepage.
As others have said a simple on/off toggle is all that's needed.
I wonder if anyone at Mozilla tried it before subjecting the public to it.

I agree with everyone above. The new function is very annoying and I frequently read pages that I have open for a long time where I do not have service or wifi and opening a new tab makes my old tabs reload and so I cannot read my old tabs. I’m fully aware what I’ve said is mostly incomprehensible but I’m just very frustrated

I'd noticed my tabs are reloading more often but didn't realize this was to blame. Even worse! I often read very long things and when a tab reloads I lose my place.

Any time I start Firefox now, it opens on a home page with ‘most used links’. I don’t want to see any links; seeing links prompts me to waste more time on the internet. I want to see a blank page like when I open a new tab. Why is Firefox acting like Chrome and trying to lure me into wasting my time? Stop it! It’s intensely annoying, annoying enough to quit Firefox for any browser that doesn’t do that. Fortunately, right now my work around is to open to DuckDuckGo instead of the ‘home’ which is as blank as I can make it. Unnecessary though. Just make a blank page sheesh.

"Re-open tabs from last session" is an option in every desktop browser, and when it's no longer forced on mobile, it's removed entirely... why?

I was messeged over on a Mozilla group and it works.
Please follow the instructions in my attached photo.

I made an account just to complain about this first and then change to the home button on iOS. It’s incredibly disruptive - if it was a good idea then any of the other browsers out there would have done it.

It’s enough to push me away from Firefox on mobile - why would I want to open an app, close the new tab page, scroll back through open tabs to find the one I wanted to read, then tap that.

Like everyone else, I hate this so-called “feature”. When I open Firefox I want the last tab I used to open. The homepage tab opens on the far right and when I close it, the first tab on the left opens. Then I have to guess which tab I’m looking for from the first couple of letters. Please change it back!

In Nightly you can now choose between
- homepage
- last tab
- homepage after four hours of inactivity

Thank you, you're a lifesaver! It took me a minute to figure out where to click because it really does nothing the first four times you tap, then on the 5th the options magically appear. So glad I was able to turn this off!

*sigh* I don't know why it keeps posting this under this comment instead of under "Nick the White"'s comment above.
